Anna-Maria Kahilainen is a Finnish flutist currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Culture and Arts at Turku University of Applied Sciences, from which she will graduate in May 2026.
During her final year at TUAS, she is undertaking an exchange at the Iceland University of the Arts, where she is studying under the tutelage of Professor Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir.
Anna-Maria is particularly interested in extended techniques and in pushing the boundaries of the classical flute. Her approach is driven by a desire to challenge conventions and explore new possibilities. Alongside this, she is committed to broadening the concert repertoire by including works by women composers.
In addition to her instrumental studies, Anna-Maria is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Study of Music at the Sibelius Academy, as well as combined Bachelor’s and Master’s studies in Musicology at the University of Turku. Looking ahead, Anna-Maria pictures a future in which she can meaningfully combine her love for the flutism with her academic interests.
